2 Every human tie may perish;
Friend to friend unfaithful prove;
Mothers cease their own to cherish;
Heaven and earth at last remove;
But no changes Can attend Jehovah's love. |
3 In the furnace God may prove thee, Thence to bring thee forth more bright, But can never cease to love thee; Thou art precious in His sight:
God is with thee, God thine everlasting light.

2 All that dedicated city,
Dearly loved by God on high, In exultant jubilation
Pours perpetual melody; God the One in Three adoring,
Singing everlastingly.
3 To this temple, where we call Thee,
Come, O Lord of Hosts, to-day: With Thy wonted loving-kindness, |
Hear Thy people, as they pray, And Thy fullest benediction
Shed within its walls alway. 4 Here vouchsafe to all Thy servants
What they supplicate to gain, Here to have and hold forever
Those good things their prayers obtain; And hereafter in Thy glory
With Thy blessed ones to reign.
Latin (8th century). Tr. Rev. J. M. Nhalb, 1851 |
